A year ago I started a blog

A year ago I started a blog. Not a personal blog, mind you, a work blog. But I suppose since my life and work are so intertwined, it was like a personal blog. A personal work blog. Anyway. I wanted to give you the inside scoop on Theatre Network. Let you know what’s happening on stage, back stage, in the office and on the roof. (Yes, on the roof. You have no idea how much business gets conducted, ideas get created and laughs are had on that roof that looks out over 124th street.)

But, I digress. Here is the result of my blog last year:

One entry.

ONE ENTRY.

Here are my reasons or excuses, if you will:
1.    I was busy putting plays on our stage
2.    I procrastinate  (Don’t act surprised, I know you do it too.)

But today is my birthday. (As I write this it’s my birthday. When I get around to posting it…it’ll probably be a day, a week, a month or a YEAR after my birthday. But you get the point.) Today is my birthday and I’m ready to turn over a new leaf. I’m ready to blog. Normally I hate birthdays. That’s right, I said it. However, if I can do something positive with this one – like kick-starting Theatre Network’s blog – then maybe I’ll start to enjoy this for what it is…a fun way to talk about Theatre Network.

So.

Theatre Network.

Theatre Network ~ Live at the Roxy.

We’re six days away from kicking off our 35th Season – one of the best and busiest we’ve seen in a long time. And I’m not just saying that because I picked it. I really am excited. The Woman in Black, opening on October 1st, has got everyone spooked. Rumours of the Roxy’s ghost are running rampant and everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - except me seems to be seeing shadows, hearing footsteps and who knows what else.

I just finished a workshop with the talented Michele Riml, who’s play Poster Boys opens here in late November. I can’t tell you how helpful the workshop was (and hilarious…I can’t think of a better way to spend my birthday then in a room with Jesse Gervais, Frank Zotter, Davina Stewart and Jeff Haslam…four of the craziest people I know). We read it, discussed it, and heard Michele’s thoughts on her play and the changes that will be done. It’s based on a real life event in Vancouver when VanCity featured a homosexual couple on their ad campaign and the Catholic Church pulled their business. It is so great to have the playwright in the room to ask questions and bounce ideas back and forth. You don’t often get to do that.

But before Poster Boys, I’m off to co-direct Thunderstick by Ken Williams at The Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon. But as I am learning that’s a blog for another time.

First. The Woman in Black. Theatre Network. October 1st to the 18th. I’ll keep you posted if – and that’s a big if – there are any hauntings before we open the show.

And before I go, Nicole our marketing lady – (she hates when I call her lady…what am I supposed to call her? Woman, gal, guru? I’ll go with guru) Nicole, our marketing guru, will kill me if I don’t tell you that as well as following our blog, you can follow us on facebook at: <br>http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=Theatre+Network&init=quick#/group.php?gid=18586527184&ref=search&sid=677811436.2903108020..1

and twitter at http://twitter.com/Theatre_Network

She had to explain to me what Twitter was.

I pretended to know all about it and said ‘were doing twitter now, eh?’ I do not know what I am talking about here – I haven’t even seen a twitter yet.

What can I say…I’m a work in progress.
